I must say, I have really enjoyed taking this course. I enjoyed setting up a blog since I had never done that. Whether or not I will continue with my blog is yet to be seen. I enjoyed learning about flickr and would like to explore that even further. I don't know whether I will be able to use the tools in the library, but I do plan to have an open mind.
Learning about the many online tools available was good. Most of them I had no idea were so readily available. I can see that they would be very useful for people that don't have the programs loaded on their computer. In order to get more comfortable with using all of the tools it will take committment to spend more time working with them which I hope to do. Technology changes so fast that taking a course to get you familiar with the latest tools available has been very helpful.
The format of this course worked well. At times I had problems scheduling the time to work on it, but all in all I think I managed pretty well. I am glad that I had the opportunity to do "13 Things" and I would love to particpate in another if I have the opportunity.

13 Things
I had a hard time with the podcasts. The podcast exercise seemed much harder than the You Tube video exercise. Of course, that could just be me. I finally figured out how to put a podcast into my google reader.
I tried searching for Library News, Medical Libraries, Librarians, etc. I didn't find much that jumped out at me, but I did find Notes from Katie Couric to be of interest so that is the one I downloaded to my google reader.
So far, this class has been very interesting in learning about things that I hadn't tried before. I am hope that I will continue to get more proficient at using some of the tools I am learning about.

There are very fascinating videos on You Tube. People are always emailing different ones that make a person laugh. The following one is pretty funny of a cat vs a printer.

Here is a cute animated video on Library Medical Emergencies.

An interesting video I found on You Tube was The Future of Libraries.

I can see where making a video specifically geared towards your own library could be very useful and when embedded into the library's website could be very helpful for patrons. There is so much technology available if one takes the time to learn about it and experiment with different things that can be done you can see what works best for you.

I enjoyed looking at the tools that are available online for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. If you didn't have access to Microsoft Word and Excel this could be very helpful. We do have a shared drive at work that we can save documents to that can be accessed by others and I think our network would be more secure than saving them online.
I like the 30 boxes calendar program. I use Calendar Creator and keep most of my important dates in that and make annual calendars for most of my family with important dates. If I didn't use that I think that the 30 boxes would work for keeping track of important things you don't want to forget. At work I do use microsoft outlook.

I spent some time looking at all the links to read about wikis and learn what they are about. I'm not really sure that this will be something that I will use.
I can see where it would be useful if you have several people working on a project and they can all edit and make the changes necessary. If a person were planning a conference I could see where it would be useful to put all the conference information in one place.
I do, however, think that it could get a bit disorganized and there might not be enough control.

I have taken a look at flickr and set up an account. This has been a very confusing day to say the least. When trying to get into my blog account I have had nothing but trouble.
This will take alot more practice to ever get good at it. Part of the problem is the time needed to complete the exercises and doing that without interruptions is next to impossible.
The following was an interesting photo found on flickr.

I have seen RSS alot, but never understood what it was. This has been a very interesting lesson and exercise. I can see that if you change the way you get updates and put them all in your Google Reader Account it could save you some time.
I hope to be able to work on this, learn more about it and begin to use it.
